The Smithsonian aka The U. S. National Museum of Natural History Is home to the Department
of Paleobiology plus their Gallery of Gems and Minerals is one of the greatest collections of its kind in the world. Over 375,000 individual specimens include such famous pieces as the Hope Diamond and the Star of Asia Sapphire, plus a research mineral collection that is in constant demand by scientist all over the world.
Natural
History Museum of Los Angeles County The 6,00 square-foot E. Hadley Stuart Jr. Hall of Gems was opened in May of 1978. Another 1,500 square-foot gallery titled Gemstones and their Origins was added in May of 1985. Together they comprise one of the finest exhibits of gems & minerals in the world.
